From Passion to Purpose

Founder's Journey
With 40 decades of chess behind him as a player, trainer, event organizer and administrator Brian Kidula has the experience it takes to steer TCA to greater heights.
His journey with chess began when he was in high school and can be described as serendipity, after being taught by his friend who watched their mutual friend play with his elder brother. Determined to master it himself, he spent hours studying and he realized that chess was more than just a pastime - it was a mirror of life, where patience, strategy, and resilience pave the way to success.
After resigning from his job in 2005 from an international organization he had diligently served for 14 years in pursuit of finding his purpose in life, Brian, popularly known as the Local GM or Uncle B finally ventured into full-time chess training in 2014 by establishing Terrian Chess Academy where he served as the CEO and founder.
‘I believe chess has the power to change people’s lives in every way; the ability to think critically, solve problems creatively, imagine vividly and concentrate intentionally’.
At Terrian Chess Africa we envision a world where chess is a tool for transformation, accessible to all, regardless of age or background. Our goal is to expand Terrian Chess Africa’s reach across the continent, establishing programs in schools, senior center, and community. By empowering youth, bridging generational gaps, and fostering teamwork, We strives to create a stronger, more connected society.
